Teak Plantations

Within the Carbon Sink Project, different silvicultural arrangements were implemented that included teak (Tectona grandis), a species native to India that showed good adaptation to the soil and climate conditions of Fazenda São Nicolau and potential for carbon sequestration. The plantations were established both in mixtures with native species and in experimental blocks of pure plantations, evaluating their productive and environmental performance.

In addition to its climate potential, teak demonstrated suitability for producing high-value timber, as provided for in the certification project. To properly manage the stand, selective thinning was carried out, promoting the growth of remaining individuals and enabling integration with cattle raising in silvopastoral systems.
