Biodiversity: protection and scientific research guaranteed

Fazenda São Nicolau is one of the most studied territories in the Southern Amazon. Although sustainable management actions began in 1998, scientific research began to consolidate on site from 2001, with the creation of the Technical and Scientific Committee. Since then, more than 100 articles have been published based on studies carried out at the farm, covering topics such as biodiversity, carbon, forest ecology, restoration and silviculture.

In addition to scientific articles, the farm’s intellectual production includes books, field guides, book chapters, conference abstracts, undergraduate final papers, master’s dissertations and doctoral theses, expanding the reach and dissemination of the knowledge generated.

To date, more than 40 species new to science have been described in the area, reinforcing the farm’s relevance as a center of scientific discovery.

Fazenda São Nicolau also has infrastructure to receive researchers from Brazil and abroad, offering logistical support and a broad collection of georeferenced data that strengthen long-term research.
