Ecological Restoration
Protection of water resources and biodiversity through the recovery of Permanent Preservation Areas in the Amazon.
PRADA FSN - 120 Hectares
Based on a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC) signed with the Mato Grosso State Secretariat for the Environment (SEMA) in 2012, the project began to restore 120 hectares of Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) located within the Carbon Sink area of Fazenda São Nicolau.
To carry out the actions, a forest nursery with capacity to produce up to 50,000 seedlings per year was established, responsible for producing seedlings of 36 native Amazonian species. The project was completed in 2019, using direct planting, cluster planting and assisted natural regeneration techniques.
As additional results, the initiative generated a Best Practices Guide for the Restoration of Degraded Permanent Preservation Areas and a book on native species from the APPs of the Juruena River basin, contributing to the dissemination of technical and scientific knowledge on ecological restoration in the Amazon.
