ONF Brazil

25 years of conservation, science and sustainable development in the Southern Amazon

Pioneering carbon removal

Started in 1999 at Fazenda São Nicolau, Mato Grosso, the Forest Carbon Sink is the first major carbon removal project based on reforestation with native species in Brazil and in the Amazon. By restoring approximately 2,000 hectares of degraded pastureland, the project integrates innovation, science and conservation, establishing itself as an international benchmark in nature-based solutions.

Experience in sustainability

Since 1999, ONF Brazil has been transforming Fazenda São Nicolau into a model of sustainable management in the Southern Amazon.

We combine reforestation, scientific research and local integration to generate positive climate impact, conserve biodiversity and improve people’s quality of life.

Open-air laboratory

Fazenda São Nicolau is an international reference center for forest management, biodiversity and reforestation with native species. It functions as an open-air laboratory for research and sustainable practices.

Fazenda São Nicolau stands out for integrating science and practice in the territory, promoting landscape restoration, biodiversity conservation and the generation of applied knowledge. Its actions directly contribute to species protection and the development of nature-based solutions in the Amazon.

Much more than an environmental initiative, Fazenda São Nicolau is a concrete commitment by the ONF group to the future of the Amazon, biodiversity and future generations. Combining innovation, socio-environmental responsibility and a long-term vision, the project transforms degraded areas into living forests, promoting carbon capture, ecosystem recovery and the strengthening of local communities.

Based on transparency, traceability and responsibility, the project offers high-integrity carbon credits developed under rigorous criteria for monitoring, conservation and positive environmental impact. Each credit represents not only emissions offsetting, but also a guarantee of effective forest protection and the strengthening of sustainable practices in the Amazon.

Each planted tree symbolizes an investment in life, water, soil and the maintenance of Brazil’s natural wealth. Our project demonstrates how companies and institutions can work together to generate real positive impact, combining technology, science and environmental responsibility in an internationally recognized project. More than offsetting emissions, the ONF Forest Carbon Sink has created a legacy: a green heritage capable of inspiring new ways of relating humanity and nature.
